Fishing

Whether you are a fly fishing expert or prefer the cast spinners, Selwyn Lake offers anglers three exciting gamefish - Northern Pike, Lake Trout and Arctic Grayling. The Selwyn Lake record is a 56 pound Lake Trout.

June - Northern Pike are in spawn and are very active while Lake Trout are feeding in shallow water along reefs and rocky shorelines throughout the lake. Catch ratios are at approximately 20 to 40 fish per guest per day, at random weights topping out at 20 to 32lbs.

July - Arctic Grayling increase their activity through to the end of July and into August. Northern Pike are brisk in early July, averaging 15 to 30 per guest per day. During July and into August the Northern Pike fishing will remain steady. Lake Trout are slow in early July as they move from shallow to deeper water throughout the month. By the end of July Lake Trout begin to find their summer depth and catch ratios move up to approximately 20 fish per guest per day.

August – Arctic Grayling are still active and fishing remains steady. The Northern Pike fishing slightly slows down, but the size of the fish increases as they feed in preparation for the winter. Lake Trout are at their maximum depth (over 100 feet) and can be caught as frequently as 50 fish per guest per day. Trophy fish in the 20 and 30 pound range are most common at this time of the year.
